iDesign App Recensioni

Pessima interfaccia

Mancano solo i gradienti e i boleani, speriamo arrivino presto.

Great support

Great and immediate support from developer.

Paid for it now it’s a subscription

Bad

A total rip off. READ this before “subscribing” to this scam.

I changed nothing in my original review. A limited response from the developer. They just don’t get it folks. My “sarcasm” was meant to make a point that they simply won’t acknowledge no matter how hard we try. They took our money in good faith then changed the rules. Plain and simple. Also, if someone does join the subscription what prevents them from “updating” the payment system again to a flat rate and gather all that money? Nothing. Personal attacks on me, my comments and other customers is no way to address your user concerns. You are ripping people off. If you don’t like the resentment that comes with such an action you shouldn’t have done it. I’m sure this response with do nothing but further your boilerplate comments that you post to every person critical of the choices you are making. No one is trying to rip you off, get something for free or anything else you post in your useless responses. But some people meaning you, just don’t get it. Like the old saying goes and I’m paraphrasing here “you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him think” Meaning? You’re so busy defending your position you forgot to do what’s right. Respond again if you must but I’m sure it will just show more of your prosecution complex. Know that what you’re doing is wrong. You can’t pee on someone’s back and tell them it’s raining. You should consider a career in politics since this app thing isn’t quite working out. Developer response to my first review: “You have changed your original review with sarcastic misinterpretations of the developers response, change can be hard when it does not come free anymore. More than a decade of free updates were provided, unfortunately there will be some critics who do not want to pay a fair price, the app will continue with its development and support for users who value it. Version 4.1 has added many new enhancements, many more will follow with continued support for future iOS versions and devices." My initial review: Out of the kindness of our dumb old hearts “we at TouchUnAware” take the time to show everyone how we rationalize charging, once again for our app that people already paid for (and what we really mean when we post a boilerplate “response” to the critics) Thank you for your review. (And your money you paid in good faith for our app) iDesign was updated and supported for the past 13 years for a low one time purchase price, (low being relative to what WE now consider low) many users have enjoyed free updates and support for over a decade. (And we appreciate your loyalty. It was a fantastic way to build our brand and by “free” we mean paid money for) This is no longer sustainable (so we thought we’d go back to the people who already purchased our app for the agreed upon set price by us and force them into giving us more money) and to keep the app developed and supported, moving to a subscription model was needed (not really needed but it was the path of least resistance so sorry, not sorry suckers) (A hard decision for a small developer to continue serving the app and its users for the years ahead). (Not that hard really, even though we sold you the app for a price we set I guess we forgot what business we were in because ALL app developers have to “serve the app and its users for years ahead”) All your design files are accessible even without a subscription with full export options included for when you are not subscribed. (If like most users of the app you invested not only your hard earned money but your time to learn our app out of the generosity of our hearts we’re going to let you do for free, what you already paid for. Surely you can see we need to charge you again for this?) The version update information clearly mentions the changes and users have always had the choice to update, free updates and new versions have a significant cost to the developer and cannot be provided free forever. (Although by free we mean you paid our asking price at the time of your purchase and now we want more money) Some users may feel entitled (by that we mean entitled to have the app you paid for) after more than a decade of free (although, again you paid for the app) updates or have a mindset against subscriptions which is hard to change. (Again, we hate to have to point this out but you people who bought the app have to change your mindset so we can charge you again for something you already paid for. We’re not wrong here. Change your minds already! What’s wrong with you paid users of our app!?) The yearly subscription option is well discounted ( “well discounted” being another relative term we’re using as a smoke screen to get even more of your money.) (works out to be less than the price of a cup of coffee a month) (although lately every time we pay for a coffee we just get an empty cup. Odd right?) and is priced much less than apps of similar capability. (And keep in mind, we work hard on this app and whatever you do for a living no matter what it is, is worth far less value than what we do in our company to make money soooooo we’re going to have to have more money from you) Hope you can see value in what the app can provide and subscribe to look forward to the app being developed and supported for the future. (But we’re not changing too much except the price. Developed and change meaning more money wink wink in the future. Who knows? Maybe we’ll revert back to a one time payment once this grift is played out and we can start all over again! And that’s really the point we want to leave you with. Just give us money man… because… you know….we wants it Precious)

Changed to subscriptions

I bought it in 2018 and now it is a subscription based app. UPDATED: the developer responded but he assume I use it regularly. I use it next to never so I don’t want a subscription based app. I just want what I agreed to and paid for.

Absolute theft

Beware of purchasing from this developer; they cannot be trusted. I purchased this app and created many designs with it. Then one day, I opened the app to a message that it’s now on a subscription model, and all I can do is use the “free viewer” to view my files - except that the free viewer is so limited as to be useless. Did you have some layers hidden? Tough bananas, the free viewer doesn’t actually let you view them. This is theft. I have used other paid apps that switched to a subscription model. They have all created a new version of the app and left the old one alone. That’s the non-scammy way to handle it. This developer instead tells its existing users that it considers them freeloaders. So, beware of doing business with this developer. You might just find that somewhere down the road, they decide to unilaterally declare that you owe them more money to get at your own drawings.

Do not update do not download

If you have used this app for any amount of time, you cannot toggle your layers, so they have essentially taken your drawings hostage to a subscription. Do not recommend.

Beware

Well, I’ve had this app for a long time. For noodling around it isn’t bad. I used it to design a wood fence, check out different paint options for a bicycle retrofit, and other simple things. But if I’ve used this app more than a few hours a year I’d be surprised. Anyway, it works for very simple things but for anything serious I use Autocad. Now, I’m really sorry I downloaded this latest subscription version. Once this is done you can’t go back. The subscription model is a misguided scheme to generate more revenue. But I’d like the app developers to know that my business is gone. I want to buy the app and perhaps pay for certain upgrades. But a subscription?? Absolutely not. I will be looking for other noodling cad apps.

Was my go to design tool

I can understand the subscription model, but when I purchased the app several years ago I became vested into a product that now is useless to me without subscribing. Other apps have made the switch to subscriptions, but have grandfathered original clients. I would be willing to go back to an earlier version of the app if that were an option, but I am now forced into subscription.

It’s a RIPOFF or The reason to NEVER pay for apps.

I used this cumbersome app for few a couple of years after paying a hefty price. Now I cannot access my drawings unless I sign up for a subscription. I have already paid for this app just like a few others that change the terms of purchase and hijack the app for subscriptions. All this leads to NEVER PURCHASE AN APP FROM THE APPLE APP STORE. Edit answer to the developer: This jerk had the audacity to blame the hijacking of this app to a Bad Business Plan, it’s not sustainable? Should have thought about that before you offered the app to buy, not after you purchase the app then hijack it and charge a subscription. You think I’m going to pay for a subscription? Screw me once shame on you, screw me twice shame on me. I am not responsible for your Bad Business Plan.

Piss poor judgement

As others have stated, greed will be one’s downfall as a company. I do like the program, it has served me well, yet I feel cheated out of a piece of property that I legally purchased and now am required to “rent” or “lease” to use. I am not apposed to purchasing modules or extras to help with the continuing development of the program, I am apposed to being tricked into something that I did not desire to have happen. EPIC fail. I will no longer use this program unless I am able to revert to a pre 4.0 version or the requirements for subscription are removed. > One star.

Very Prompt Response

I’ve been using iDesign for years for my work. Always been very happy with it. Recently, after a new update, I came across an issue that made my projects much harder. I contacted support and was very promptly contacted and the issue was very quickly addressed and fixed in another update. Though this program used to be free, it is of such value to me that paying for it now is well worth it. Very highly recommended!

Terrible Customer Policies

I used to use this as a fast sketch up on jobs (I’m an Engineer) on my iPad. I purchased it as a “One Time Purchase.” Suddenly this program doesn’t open any more unless I pay a subscription price. I HATE RANSOM-Ware. I won’t be paying a Ransom to keep using a program I paid for as agreed. It’s almost understandable why software developers get in on the GOLD-RUSH of app subscriptions. People have to pay even if they don’t use the app. But developers should change ethically, then I will decide if it is of benefit to me to pay the subscription. This type of RANSOM or loose your files, is extortion & should be illegal & prosecuted as a crime. I will take the loss of my files I can no longer access, redraw what I can in another app & that will be the end of iDesign for me. One star is too many.

Bad Transition to Subscription Model

Punishing those who have purchased software in the past by taking away what they've already paid for is a bad way to switch across to a subscription model. I'd never again trust a developer or company once they did that. It's like someone selling you a house and coming back years later claiming you now have to start paying rent on what's already yours. If they’d limited access to ongoing updates or new features to those willing to join the new subscription plan, fine…that seems fair to pay for ongoing support. But this move being made seems to effectively steal the software already paid for if its prior users aren’t willing to now subscribe and make the mistake of updating their app. Seriously, how can anyone ever trust a developer again once he's pulled a move like this? A subscription tier leaving what was already purchased intact or creating a secondary subscription app that will be the only one going forward that will be receiving updates while the old one is left untouched seems fair. This isn’t. Response to the Developer Response - None of that changes the fact that if any prior users have auto updates turned on or accidentally update to the new version of this app you are either taking the functionality they once paid for away OR locking them into a new subscription model just to maintain the use of something they already bought. It's sleazy and there are better ways to shift an app into a subscription model than taking away what others have already purchased. One can put the new version of the app out there as a separate piece of software and let the old one sit and gather dust, one can leave the prior features intact for current paid owners of the app but limit their access to new and future features. There are lots of ways other app developers deal with this situation that are better and more moral than what's happening here. Your prior users PURCHASED this and now you’re coming back, taking it from them, and telling them they have to RENT it from you to continue using it. How can anyone trust a developer going forward after a move like that?

New design?

Take a look at “Concepts” approach to subscriptions that keep all original consumers happy and give us variable options to subscribe to. Several current apps have similar approaches. The app is very good but not for the continued use with this subscription. My current use doesn’t warrant this subscription. Thanks for the original app though.

I deleted this app because of subscription

I paid good money for the app and now they pulled this crap. No more. Good bye.

Backup before loading subscription version

Apparently updating to the subscription version will delete all the files stored on the iPad. Move to cloud or email to yourself to avoid loosing your files. However for reasons unknown in my case after two days all my old files showed up in “recent” files and hence were recovered. Not sure if a backup is made by touchware for the update or not. Anyway all is well now. At any rate love the app. I have been using it for ten years for furniture design, RC model aircraft drawings and illustrations, and in re-rendering a 7 color club logo after the original art work was lost and only low resolution pictures could be found. Love the resolution tand precision that is possible with the apple pencil.

Theft of property.

This new update is a disgraceful insult to everyone who has bought this app. You took the app away from the user under the guise of “needed change”. How is stealing what you sold to us and holding it for subscription ransom considered a wise move by you people? You could’ve just let us keep the latest non subscription version. But instead you decided to spit in you consumers’ faces, while trying to be polite about this “needed change”. For what? This app is not a game-changer in the design world and no one thinks of it as important enough to go into yet another subscription over. This was greed, we are not that stupid.

Still my go to app for designing!

This was one of my first apps ever purchased for the iPad. I designed an octagon deck with it and a radiator shroud for my truck. Glad to see the developer is still making updates!

Not pencil enclusive

If you don’t want the pencil use, but want a very overall nice app, using finger as mouse, it’s very neat drafting tool, with large amount of options. It would be my favorite overall, if it had the finger for zooming and panning and pencil for the use of your cursor. It reminds of old first Gen GUI versions of 2D AutoCad, which I liked or like a last gen DOS version with a GUI interface. (Which, I loved!). But, unfortunately, no use of pencil/finger gesture combo.

Tried some others but sticking with this!

Have used this App for a long time and it just can’t be beat for 2d vector drawing. I use it for woodworking projects and for laying out shop furniture and fixtures to scale. I’ve been tempted by the 3d CAD Apps and tried a few but in the end they lacked needed features or were too expensive or, worst, had ridiculous subscription fees. A couple things I’d like to see: some more detail or expanded tutorials re editing shapes and an option to include bounding lines (brackets?) for dimensions.

Good for 2d cad

I’ve tried a number of apps looking for a 2d cad application. Autocad is very good, but overkill and I didn’t want to pay the price for my limited usage. iDesign seems to be one of the better choices. Many of the other choices are very poorly designed and buggy. It offers snaps, grids, groups, layers and coordination with iCloud and Dropbox. It even offers architectural wall healing and import from photos as a background for tracing. With offset handles, slide away toolbars, tap, double tap and drag, the interface works well on a finger driven iPad. It gives me 90% of what I want. See the video and user guide on the developers website. As a bonus, the iPad app will work on a M1 Mac as an iOS app syncing files thru iCloud. The dedicated Mac app is more capable and may be desirable if you regularly use this on the Mac. However there are some omissions that you should be aware of before you spend your $8.00. There is only snap to the corners and endpoints of a shape. No mid point or center snaps. A workaround is possible with adding and changing some temporary elements. No advanced perpendicular or tangent snaps. No snap to percentage of feature. No distribute function for multiple copies You cannot copy an element or group from one file to another. You need a $12.00 / yr subscription to turn on user defined libraries. You won’t find this out until you buy the app. Boo! The coloring features are nice, best for illustration purposes, beyond my 2d cad need. Much of the power here is in mastering the possibilities with paths (bezier type curves) and the path tools. The shape Boolean operator tools are a nice feature. So all in all, one of the better choice for 2d cad.

Problems

The App would not change the dimensions stayed in CM the whole time would not let me change in to the architecture format made it seem like I needed to subscribe to get it. That did not change spent 19 dollars on nothing when all I wanted to do was draw kitchen plans for my plumber and electrician to follow. Extremely disappointed

Crashes Frequently & Destroys Work

This app either crashed or undid/deleted my work about every two minutes. Thought because I’m using a high-capacity iPad Pro that it would run well... Evidently not. This app is terrible.

The Perfect Balance

Idesign is by far the most useful vector drawing app I've purchased for the ipad. It strikes the perfect balance between powerful tools and uncluttered user interface. It's the first app I've found that works the way I do -- the tools are intuitive and I'm only limited by my imagination in how to use them. Having onboard dimensional tools is a life-saver. As a quilt designer, my pieces have to fit together exactly and I appreciate the ability to get accurate drawings that I can then use for templates and electronic cutting machines. The app works well with its Mac companion XDesign and with the iphone iDesign as well. The developer is quick to respond to questions -- even when I've overlooked the answer in the manual. Thanks iDesign for a great product.

No line joining, no manual?

I got frustrated when I drew a series of line shapes and couldn’t close them to make the shape i wanted so i quit using the app as soon as i’d started.

Don’t Buy!

App is very slow to start and crashes frequently on iPad Pro, don’t waste your money...

IDesign App

The app does exactly what I need it to do, which is be a mobile idea station for when I am traveling, the tools are good enough, my only issue is the constant crashes every 25-30 mins and many times the line tools begins to only want to create white lines that aren’t visible and the program will not let me change it. In order to make changes I have to completely turn off my phone and restart iDesign. I love this app but I’m almost to the point where I’m going to delete it if nothing is changed.

Does not work

Application will not start. Hot and miss on when it works, useless.

Wow!

I just went through 2 apps to find this (Adobe Draw and Concepts). This is the only one that does what I need. My needs are simple. Draw vectors and be able to type their dimensions, that’s it. The interface is super easy to use and well organized. I got going in less than 10 minutes! Finally.

Excellent 2D Cad, SVG app

This is an excellent drafting / 2D-CAD app. It allows you to use your iPad for design work that not too long ago would have required a laptop or desktop computer. The designer has done a great job introducing clever UI (user interface) elements to enhance accuracy and improve productivity. This is important because, after all, you are often drawing with just your fingers. The manual is thorough and complete, and should be read by anyone interested in making this program work for them. I suspect the highly negative reviews are coming from folks who have not.

I've been using this design program on my tablet for a year or two. I have to be honest in mentioning that at the beginning I had several problems with the program, however I recognize that they have made good changes that have improved it. I am a craftsman and work in wood and it has been of great help to me. In the past I used Adobe ilustrator to design the same thing I'm doing now. I hope that the producers continue making improvements.

DOES NOTHING BUT CRASH

-Crashes constantly -Not user friendly -Not intuitive -Navigation around tools

Great program

This program for the cost is one of the best deals out there. Took a little bit of time to get productive with the program mainly as I am used to working in a PC environment, not iPad. Manual covers everything. If you are familiar with a vector drawing program like Illustrator you will hit the ground running very quickly.

Fabulous and full featured

I have been downloading and purchasing various CAD and Drafting Apps for a year now. I need to create 2D plans for construction projects and every App I found was either buggy, poorly designed or lacking features that would be obviously needed by any user. This is the App I needed and I’m lucky I finally found it. As a professional I don’t have time to embrace the stupid. I need to save time, not waste it. I need to improve productivity, not become a victim of bad software. This App is intuitive, complete, and highly productive. Many thanks to the developer for his passion and clear thinking.

Ok, but..

Basic cad drawing is ok, iCloud Drive implementation is awkward, have to open another design to save another to iCloud. Can’t attach dimensions to objects.

Worked for 3 minutes(problem resolved)

Update: After installing a new iOS update (11.2.6) the problem appears to have resolved itself for now. I will however note that I sent in a service ticket to the app developer and received a blazing fast response with good information on how to potentially resolve the issue, however I had already fixed it with the update. Original review: Downloaded, drew 3 lines, tried a few things to edit a line and the app just froze. Closed the app and restarted it. After the splash screen it goes to "loading" indefinitely. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling and it loads to the blank workspace with the tools along the edge but nothing works when you click on it. Close and restart and it's back to the indefinite loading situation. It's currently completely unusable.

A flaw

The dimension tool does not print the dimension on the graph

Not very user friendly

Difficult to use

Deletes my work, not drop DELETE

1 Star because in order to post this I must. -10 Stars for reliability, 4.5 Stars usability, and 1 Star for use as a tool. In three major project I not only backed everything up I saved all the time. First project took months to get all the bugs out and on the day I was ready to publish, it was all gone nothing not even a piece of paper. Nothing but a thumbnail to remind me of all the work just gone. Second, thinking it was a fluke I worked on project two and after a couple weeks it was gone also. As I have a three strikes policy I chose to do one more and again in a few days this design was also gone. I had even taken the precaution of backing iDesign up so I could at least go back to that point. A few choice words later I found it to be gone as well. While I believe the program has potentially, as a reliable work source it is not, to me it’s just a toy not for serious consideration.

Just what I was hoping to find!

This app is a full featured CAD program that I primarily use on an iPad Pro with an Apple Pencil. It also, seamlessly, allows me to move to and from their Mac version (xDesign $29) since the iCloud storage is integrated so well. The app tutorials had me drawing in a half-hour and the workflow becomes routine quite quickly. When they upgrade it do 3D volumes it will knock the “Adobe big boys” out of the market.

Woodworking Design Tool

It’s hard to find a program that is usable for designing woodworking cabinets/furniture for my shop. All I find is either to complicated or not capable. This tool was at first a bit daunting, but the tutorials and online user guides are very helpful. Now this is my go to tool before the sawdust begins to fly. Its ability on the iPad Pro is magnificent and they are keeping up with bug fixes and new releases - I feel the ongoing support is critical. Thanks Touchware.

Finally! a great easy to use intuitive app for technical drawing

I have a friend apps on the iPad and was super psyched find a iDesign. It was very easy to begin to use and it is now my primary app for drawing diagrams for my physics courses. It is especially useful that there is a companion MacOS app (XDesign) that I can also edit files with; and by using icloud, both apps automatically synchronize file changes. The only reason I give 4 stars instead of five is the lack of LaTeX support for including mathematical equations. Looking forward to multitasking support on the iPad Pro.

Unusable- Keeps Crashing 9/15/17

App keeps crashing when attempting to draw line with path tool. Can't even draw a line, app crashes.

Ripoff!

This app keeps crashing! It looks like a useful app, but crashes on simple functions on the latest iPad. Do not waste your money!

I like

After going to school eons ago for drafting and design, graduating to various CAD systems and applying those skills to my work life for 40+ years I find I am impressed with this system. It is a excellent start to something that can be really fantastic. I believe the trick to learning it is to think IPad and not Autocad. The system you are working on is different thus so is the requirements. So use the tutorial and manual it will not take long to get the feel of the package. I gave it 4 stars simply because it can and does need a some additional enhancements but it is a very good little package. I am feel I got my money's worth and more. Please keep up the great work.

Magnificent

Don't think, just buy it. And then play with the program for a few hours to learn the features. This program was indispensable in designing my stone retaining wall, a garden pergola and I even designed a company logo for a friend's music company. Versatile enough for you? For the price, it's unbelievable, an extremely capable app. My only complaint - the manual is for version 1.7, and a few features for this latest version were not explained, so I had to figure it out on my own. I emailed the company twice to ask a few questions and they never answered me. That's kind of low-rent. But the app is fabulous.

Thank you for listen to us

They you for adding transparency to background image...🎨💎

Truly Eceptional

Watch out SketchUp, if this app comes up with a 3D option and keeps it on the iPad / iPhone platform then game over. By far, exactly what I need for my custom cabinet and furniture business. I made the switch to just an iPad Pro and iPhone last year (I think pc and laptops are yesterday's technology) and needed something to take SketchUp's place (since they only have reader capability on iPads and iPhones). This is as close as I have found in a 2d version. I have to admit I like using this app in the 2d version verses SketchUp in 3d. I have about 4 other apps that are design apps. None, are even close compared to this app. Thank you iDesign, great job and keep it on the iPad / iPhone platform.

Great 2D design app!

I was looking for a nice 2D drawing app that I could use to design shelves and cabinetry for closets and other projects around my home. I found iDesign and decided to give it a try. I downloaded the app and started to use it. I had a problem wrapping my head around the art board and dimensions whereas I couldn't set it up he way I needed it. I sent a request to support and had a resolution within 24 hours. This app is great and I must say that I am having a great time drawing
